Soon Now Soon

Soon Now Soon

Exactly one weeks’ time the Achilles team will fly the long 19 hour flight across the Atlantic Ocean to New York City. Wow I thought as Ange talks to me with excitement.

“Babes next week Monday will be our last sleep before we head out”.

“What huh what’s the date”.

Ange tells me and suddenly I am excited I can’t believe this it has come so fast. Nick myself and the team have trained hard every weekend we have run together. During the week every one has done their training as well. People ask me are you ready? I just say no I will only be ready when I am lining up at the start amongst sixty thousand others. Before I started training for the first marathon I don’t think I had run five kilometers but I did finish, I was broken and in pain but I finished.

This year I have not trained half as much as before but weirdly I am stronger than ever I can run further and faster than before. I guess it is because I have for two years now walked and run most days. My many injuries which woke up in the first marathon seem to have been silenced. We will have to see when that thirty kilometer mark arrives.

Denis told me I had to find another that bears the invisible injury help train and motivate him and get him across that finish line-I believe I found that man and I do believe he will arrive back home with his medal. Nick is such a fighter and an inspiration to me he never complains even when his foot is black and blue he just carries on.

I have found that the most inspirational time as we trained was the family which stands proudly right next to him. His dad Tony and his sister Gabi are our guides Tony Guides Nick so well he knows all his down falls and continues to strengthen him. Part of Gabi’s studies have to do with our injuries so she is certainly qualified to guide both of us. His mom Debbie is there every Saturday as we return from our early run with the most amazing breakfast.

I could not have chosen a better man to complete the marathon. I do know we will not break any records except one that is my last years’ time of 6 hours 52 minutes as I spent many hours in the medical tents this year I will keep away from them. I will pass them by and smile as I say to myself you will not see me inside goodbye.

To all those that have helped us fund our journey thank you so very much it means the world to us and it has certainly lifted the great weight on Anges shoulders. Please remember any donations are most welcome.
